Ephesians – A Poem for Children

by

Author’s Note: Parents are commanded to diligently teach the Word of God to their children (Deut 6:7Eph 6:4). Poetry is one way that God effectively communicates truth to His people (Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Song of Songs, Lamentations). The following poem is intended to summarize the main themes of a biblical book to help children learn, internalize, and retain the truth of God’s Word.

Paul, to Ephesian saints where they reside,
Grace to you all who are faithful in Christ.

Blessings in Christ was the Father’s great plan,
Who chose us in Jesus before time began.

Our holiness flows from what He has done,
Predestined in love for adoption as sons.

Redemption secured by blood and by grace,
A myst’ry made known in the Beloved’s face.

Sealed by the Spirit, God’s fixed guarantee,
Through faith in Christ to the praise of His glory.

Though once you were dead in trespass and sin,
You live now in Christ, having been raised with Him.

Salvation by grace destroys boastful talk,
Created for good works in which we should walk.

Gentiles now share in the household of God,
Brought near by the blood of Christ Jesus our Lord.

This God reveals, in the gospel, to you,
Another truth hidden from history’s view.

Therefore, in view of God’s mercy, you all
Must walk in a manner worthy of your call.

Up into Christ is the way we should grow,
So that we won’t be children, tossed to and fro.

Put off the old man, corrupt through and through,
Instead, clothe yourself with the man who is new.

Imitate God, walk as children of light,
Be filled with the Spirit to do what is right.

Marriage reflects Jesus’ love for His bride,
He gave up Himself so she’d be sanctified.

Satanic powers are here for the fight,
Be strong in the Lord and the strength of His might.

Grace to those with incorruptible love,
And peace to the brothers from our God above.
